From small to large, “Happy Birthday” to a more specific “Happy 21st”, to “I love you to the end of the world and back”, and “Mom you’re the best”, greeting cards have been a form of sharing a special message since I can remember.
In a way, a greeting card can replace a present and become the centre of a gift to someone. It’s the one thing that we keep with us all year long, often with multiple cards being displayed across mantle pieces. More so, it’s the one thing that explicitly shares a message with someone. A message is priceless, while gifts do often get associated with a monetary value. Have you ever had the thought or even a discussion around how much someone actually spent on a gift? It happens all too often, and the sad truth is it’s because we often don’t value a gift as anything more than mandatory for a special occasion. In the inverse, a special message in a card, can make a gift more personal and forgets any monetary value associations with a gift.
